What respite care is
Caring for a parent or partner every day is rewarding and tiring. Respite care means one of our caregivers takes over for a while, at home, so you can take a break without worrying.
What the caregiver does
The same help you give every day: personal care, meals, company and keeping an eye on things. We go through the routine with you first, so your family member notices as little change as possible.
Respite through Medicaid
The Virginia CCC Plus Waiver covers up to 480 hours of respite per state fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). Source: CCC Plus Waiver fact sheet (DMAS).
How to pay
Through Virginia Medicaid, which pays for this care at home once you qualify for long-term care, or privately per hour. Paying for home care explains both.

A free visit at home
Our nurse visits you at home for a free assessment before care starts.
We match a caregiver
You can meet the caregiver before care starts, if you like.
Care starts
Often within 72 hours. With Medicaid, once your health plan has approved the hours.
We stay in touch
Our nurse visits again every 30 to 90 days. Not the right match? We find another caregiver, usually within 72 hours.
