Ma-Lowe Home Care Agency, Inc.

Common questions

The questions families ask us most on the phone.

How long have you been in business?

Since 1999, from our office in Alexandria, Virginia.

Are you an accredited agency?

Yes. Ma-Lowe is accredited by The Joint Commission.

Are you a Medicaid provider?

Yes. We provide home care through the Virginia Medicaid waiver. Call us, and we will check with you whether your plan covers care with us.

Does Medicare pay for home care?

Only for part-time skilled care, such as a nurse or therapist, when you are homebound and a doctor orders it. Medicare does not pay for long-term help with bathing, dressing and daily care when that is the only care you need.

Do you visit us at home before care starts?

Yes. Our nurse visits you at home for a free assessment before care starts.

How soon can care start?

Often within 72 hours. With Medicaid, care starts once your health plan has approved the hours. On the phone we tell you what applies to you.

Can we switch to Ma-Lowe from another agency?

Yes. We help you with the transfer.

Do you screen your employees?

Yes. Every caregiver has an interview, and we check references with previous employers and do a criminal background check before they start.

Can we meet the caregiver before care starts?

Yes, if you would like to.

What if we don't get along with the caregiver?

Tell us. We find you another caregiver as soon as possible, usually within 72 hours.

Is a nurse involved in the care?

Yes. Our nurse visits before care starts, and again every 30 to 90 days, depending on the care.

Can I call at night or on the weekend?

Yes. Our phone, 703-370-4002, is answered 24 hours a day. At night, calls can be forwarded to a registered nurse.
